An Apple phone or watch may save lives in the future. The CultOfMac website has reported about a patent granted to the company for a small sensor that analyzes gases harmful to humans.
One of the gases it detects is carbon monoxide – which is a colorless and odorless gas and therefore deceptive. It also detects ozone, nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen monoxide, sulfur dioxide, methane, and volatile organic compounds.
As of now, this is just a patent application, so there is no information yet on whether the feature will arrive on Apple's mobile devices. In any case, it would be a surprising but logical extension of the heart rate measurement that has arrived on the Apple Watch, for example.
