Two new models are coming from home theater expert Integral to the Research series at the reference level. Both the preamp/controller DRC-R1.1 and DRX-R.1.1 amplifier are 11.2-channel.
Both support 4K HDBaseT, which means it can transmit HDR10 and Dolby Vision-level 4K images at 60 frames per second and 4:4:4 color at up to 100 meters away.
On the audio side, both support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X at up to 7.2.4 channels. They also have multiple zones. Chromecast is built-in in both and supports Google Assistant voice control. On the multi-room side, there is support for DTS Play-Fi and FlareConnect. Streaming services include Spotify Connect, Tidal, Deezer, and TuneIn.
There are eight HDMI ports, seven of which are located on the rear of the device and one on the front panel. In addition, there is an out for main out and a sub/zone 2 output that supports HDCP 2.2 copy protection and 4K video at 60 frames per second. HDR formats supported include HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG. The devices support Wide Color Gamut, sYCC601, Adobe RGB and Adobe YYC601 colors, as well as BT.2020 color space.
The DRC-R1.1 is a THX Ultra2 Plus certified preamp/controller that is modular in design. Its circuit boards are floating and the enclosure is rimmed to reduce color distortion. Inside are three 32-bit digital signal processors. As a DAC, the front channels feature the 32-bit/384 kHz AK4490, the surround channels feature the 32-bit and 769 kHz AK4458, and have their own converters for both zone 2 and zone 3.
Gold-plated and balanced xlr connectors are provided for each channel as pre-out connections. More control-related connections include bi-directional IP and RS-232 ports, two infrared inputs and one output, and three programmable 12 volt trigger outputs.
The DRX-R1.1 also has an amplifier that provides 140 watts at an 8 ohm load, measured over two channels. Its harmonic total noise figure is reported to be 0.08 percent. The transformer is said to be low-noise.
