Huawei has unveiled the new Y9 (2018) smartphone, which falls into the more affordable mid-range segment. The Kirin 659 processor powers the device, which is also used in the Lite models of the Mate 10 and Honor 9 phones. The central memory capacity is 3 gigabytes. Storage space is available in the amount of 32 gigabytes, which can be expanded if necessary with a memory card. The operating system is Android 8 Oreo with EMUI 8.0.
The display is a six-inch IPS touchscreen with a 18:9 aspect ratio and FullHD+ resolution (1,080 x 2,160). The battery is quite large at 4,000 mAh. There are dual cameras on the front and back. The rear camera is equipped with a 16-megapixel sensor and a second 2-megapixel camera for depth effect. The front camera has a resolution of 13 megapixels and the second camera is similar to the one on the back.
Several models of the Y series have been on sale in Finland, but so far there hasn’t been another model like the Y9. It remains to be seen whether the new model will reach stores here. The price is also not known yet, but it will probably be slightly lower than the Mate 10 Lite, due to the smaller central memory and storage space, for example. The Mate 10 Lite currently costs about 300 euros in stores.
