PCMag has tested Beyerdynamic's Custom Game headphones. They are the company's more affordable gaming headphones, below the MMX 300 flagship headphones. About the MMX 300 we reported a couple of months ago. The price of . Custom Game in Finland is around two hundred euros.
Both the case and the earbud covers are covered with faux leather. The headphones are designed to fit around the ears, and according to the test, they are very comfortable even for large-sized ears. The back panel can be decorated with replaceable paper illustrations that can be detached and attached using the included hexagonal clip. There are six of them attached to each earbud.
The boom microphone is part of the management mini-plug connector. It is praised in the review as excellent and sensitive. The management also includes a remote control. In addition to the cable equipped with 3.5 mm connectors, the package also includes a PC connection with separate microphone and headphone connectors and a 6.3 mm adapter. There is no carrying case or bag included.
The bass port can be adjusted using a mechanical lever and thus customize the bass sound to suit your ear. The bass is praised for being controlled and low-distortion. However, the bass in the lower part is moderate for gaming headphones, as the frequency response is straight forward like a high-end headphone.
However, there are more tones in the mid-range and treble than in gaming headphones in general. It seems that the goal has been to make high-quality music headphones suitable for gaming with a microphone that is necessary for gaming use. The essential speech sounds in gaming are clear even with a louder sound track.
The headphones are praised for their strong and balanced sound, sturdy and comfortable design, and adjustable bass ports. However, they are criticized slightly for being expensive. Many cheaper gaming headphones are equipped with virtual surround sound, while the Beyerdynamic Custom Gamet are stereo headphones.
