Chipmaker Qualcomm has unveiled a more powerful variant of its flagship chip of this year, the Snapdragon 855 Plus. It is optimized for gaming, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and 5G connectivity.
The graphics performance is fifteen percent more efficient thanks to the Adreno 640 graphics chip in the base model. The processor has been tuned to be slightly more efficient, reaching a maximum clock speed of 2.96 gigahertz. The AI engine is promised to reach seven trillion operations per second.
On the 5G side, the 855 Plus is promised to offer the best mobile performance in its class, as well as better coverage and battery life. It includes two modems: X24 LTE 4G for connections and X50 5G for connections. The new chips are expected to arrive in the first phones this year.
