LG has announced more details about its television lineup for this year. The company will hold a press conference at CES on January 7, but has already given a small taste of what’s to come.
The top of the lineup comes with an 88-inch 8k OLED TV called the Z9. It is not yet known whether there will also be a smaller version. In any case, it features the α9 Gen 2 processor announced just before Christmas, which is said to improve image quality. The processor is capable of adjusting brightness, contrast, and colors based on lighting. LG introduced a prototype of a 8k TV of the same size last year.
The 4k OLED lineup also features this processor. The lineup includes the W9, E9 and C9, but so far there is no information on whether the mid-range G series has been dropped from the lineup. There is also no information yet on the budget B series.
In addition to OLED TVs, a 75-inch 8k LCD TV called the SM99 is also coming out. Below it are the SM9X and SM8X series, which LG calls NanoCell TVs. They are said to have good color accuracy, wide viewing angles, and slim bezels.
Most of 2019 will feature a high 120-frame refresh rate supported by hdmi 2.1 with eARC, which in turn offers 32 audio channels and eight 24-bit and 192 kHz uncompressed channels at 38 megabits per second. The flagship models also feature Dolby Atmos and virtual 5.1-channel surround sound. A feature less familiar to Finns is the Amazon Alexa voice control alongside the built-in Google Assistant in last year's lineup.
