The German hi-fi manufacturer Canton has celebrated its 50th anniversary by introducing the Ergo GS Edition speaker. The original Ergo was introduced in 1979 and was the manufacturer’s first floor speaker model. The GS letters come from the initials of the company’s founder Günther Seitz. The speaker has a bass reflex cabinet, but with the mid-range and treble elements located in a closed enclosure. The enclosure is also better supported and damped compared to the original, and the bottom structure has also been developed. The enclosure is finished with wood veneer.
The bass sound is provided by two elements measuring 220 millimeters in size, featuring a wave top and a ceramic tungsten cone. Their frequency range extends all the way to the lower limit of the human hearing range at 20 Hertz and at the other end at 200 Hertz. Above that frequency, the sound is produced by a 154 millimeter midrange element with a ceramic triple curve cone. Its frequency range extends up to three kilohertz. From there, the 25 millimeter aluminum oxide/ceramic dome tweeter continues to produce sound up to 40 kilohertz. According to Canton, the components and internal wiring used in the crossover are of high quality components and cables.
The Canton Ergo GS Edition is produced in a limited edition of 50 units.
