Chinese phone manufacturer OnePlus, a favorite among Finns, has announced its new OnePlus 6 model today in London. The phone will be available globally on May 22. The color options are Mirror Black, Midnight Black, and a limited edition Silk White that will be available on June 5.
As a surprise, wireless headphones were also announced at the same time – but not completely wireless. Nevertheless, the good old headphone jack is also found on the woven model. The most striking change in the phone itself is the larger 6,28-inch AMOLED display compared to its predecessor, which is equipped with a notch. The screen has an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a resolution of 1,080 x 2,280 pixels.

The manufacturer says that it has invested primarily in the speed of the phone, and the motto of the launch event was “The Speed You Need”. This has been aimed not only at the processor but also at other things. The maximum speed of the 4G LTE network connection is promised to be one gigabyte per second. In addition, according to the manufacturer, the OnePlus 6 has faster application launch and a cache for the most used applications. The user interface is OxygenOS, which offers almost pure Android, which also usually offers more speed. Android P, which will be released in the fall, is promised to arrive on the phone quickly.
The OnePlus 6 has an aluminum body and a Gorilla Glass 5 back. There's also a fingerprint sensor on the back. The battery capacity is 3,300 mAh. Charging is promised to take half an hour for a day's needs. However, there's no wireless charging. Facial recognition is also promised to work in 0,4 seconds. The phone has a revamped gaming mode. It doesn't just reduce notifications, but also limits background processes during gameplay.

The phone is available in three versions. The cheapest one is equipped with six gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of storage. The middle one has eight gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of storage. The most powerful version has eight gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of storage. The system chip is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, familiar from many of this year's top Android phones, which the manufacturer says offers 30 percent more performance and 10 percent less power consumption.

There are two rear cameras. The main camera has a 16-megapixel sensor and the secondary camera has a 20-megapixel sensor. The rear cameras have an aperture of f/1,7. The main camera also has optical image stabilization. Low-light photography has been focused on. The sensor has been enlarged by 19% to produce more detailed and less noisy images. The front camera, on the other hand, has a 16-megapixel sensor and an f/2,0 aperture.
Unlike many other high-end phones, the launch event did not talk about actual AI features. The portrait mode is promised to be faster and new effects are available. In addition, portrait mode is also available in the selfie camera.
On the video side, there is a slow motion function that can record a minute at 480 fps when the resolution is 720p. At Full HD resolution, the speed drops to 240 frames. What's special about the function, however, is that after recording for a minute, you can choose which moment you want to slow down. 4K images can be recorded at 60 fps. The video editor has also been redesigned. It has more control options. In the editor, you can crop, use filters and add background music.
While the previous model was only available from Elisa, the OnePlus 6 will also be available through Telia. The actual sale starts on May 22, except for Silk White on June 5.

As a handy feature, the headphones turn on when you take them apart and stop playing when you click them together. The headphones also turn off automatically after five minutes of inactivity. Charging is done via a USB-C connection. According to the manufacturer, with fast charging, you can charge for 5 hours in 10 minutes. Total battery life is promised to be eight hours.
The sound is provided by a 9,2-inch driver. The Bluetooth connection is enhanced with Qualcomm's aptX technology to improve sound quality. "Energy tube" technology is promised to prevent sound distortion. The headphones are promised to be weatherproof. They are priced at 69 euros and will be available on June 5th.
