McIntosh, a renowned designer and manufacturer of high-end audio equipment, has thrilled the audio industry with the launch of the highly anticipated PS2K Powered Subwoofer. The newest member of the McIntosh family is crafted with precision and passion, bringing an unparalleled audio experience to a new era.
The PS2K Subwoofer features four 13-inch bass drivers with massive magnets. This high-end system utilizes McIntosh’s patented Low Distortion High Performance (LD/HP®) Magnetic Circuit Design technology. The innovation significantly reduces distortion while improving the speaker’s power characteristics and efficiency. Each of the four bass drivers uses its own Class D amplifier of 500 watts, which together produce an incredible total power of 2,000 watts. These amplifiers have been carefully calibrated to minimize distortion and deliver crystal clear, tight bass with astonishingly low distortion even in the most spacious listening rooms.
The PS2K Powered Subwoofer showcases McIntosh’s commitment to craftsmanship with its innovative multi-layer carbon fiber woofers. Unlike previous carbon fiber woofers that were prone to warping issues, the new multi-layer carbon fiber woofers are seamlessly integrated with the sound cone, offering exceptional power and resistance to the long travel paths of the element. This results in extreme rigidity, eliminating unwanted deformation and further enhancing the clarity of the sound.
In addition to striking design and performance, the PS2K offers a versatile selection of connectivity options, making it compatible with practically any audio system. Whether you have a two-channel stereo system or a multi-channel home theater configuration, the PS2K offers balanced and line-level stereo inputs and outputs, as well as balanced and line-level subwoofer inputs and outputs. The PS2K’s chaining capabilities also allow for the integration of multiple units into a single system.
The PS2K Powered Subwoofer also features two McIntosh protection technologies. The first, Power Guard®, monitors incoming audio signals and makes real-time adjustments to prevent sudden distortion, ensuring a flawless listening experience. The second, Sentry Monitor™, provides a plugless surge protection circuit that disconnects the amplifier’s output stage to prevent damage if the power exceeds safe operating levels.
The PS2K Powered Subwoofer will be available through authorized McIntosh retailers starting October 2023. The manufacturer's recommended retail price is $50,000.
