The Honor 400 is priced around 450-500 euros, and directly challenges the popular Samsung Galaxy A56. It offers a bright display and a versatile camera battery, but it doesn't quite reach the top of its competitors in terms of performance and gaming.
Honor is a Chinese manufacturer that has established itself especially in mid-range smartphones. Its strategy has been to make devices available that combine an attractive price with a sufficient level of features for everyday use. In Finland, Honor's models have found their audience, and the Honor 400 continues this trend by positioning itself at the upper end of the mid-range. Its goal is to provide an attractive alternative to favorites like the Galaxy A56.
Display and performance
The Honor 400's clear strength is its display. The 6,55-inch AMOLED panel offers a resolution of 2736 × 1264 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, a wide DCI-P3 color space, and support for over a billion colors. The manufacturer promises a brightness of 5000 nits, but this could not be confirmed in tests. In practice, however, the display is bright enough even in sunlight. HDR support is available, but the important Dolby Vision and HDR10 formats are missing.
The performance is handled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, supported by an Adreno 720 graphics controller and 8 GB of memory. The chip is not the latest, and the performance is more in line with its predecessor than this year's top models.
In Geekbench 6, the Honor 400 scored 1027 points on a single core and 3287 points on a multi-core. The 3DMark Steel Nomad Light test scored 492 points, well below the Galaxy A56's 641 points. However, in the stress test, the device achieved an excellent 99% stability, meaning that performance remains consistent under load. The Wild Life test produced 5433 points, roughly on par with the Galaxy S21, and the Wild Life Extreme 1485 points, which is equivalent to the older iPhone XS. The device does not support the Solar Bay test due to the lack of the Vulkan interface. Temperatures remained moderate even under heavy load, at a maximum of around 40 degrees.

In practical tests, the Honor 400 is clearly an everyday phone. Lighter games run well, but more demanding ones remain out of reach due to heavy graphics effects and the lack of Vulkan support.

Cameras and usage
The Honor 400 focuses on cameras, which is reflected positively in everyday use. The 200-megapixel main camera produces sharp and colorful images, and the depth sensor helps produce natural-looking background blur. There is no telephoto lens, so the magnification is based on artificial intelligence, but the result is reasonable. The 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle is of basic quality, and the 50-megapixel front camera stands out with its clear and bright residuals. In addition, the filter options made with Harcourt bring a finished look to the images.
Considering its price range, the Honor 400 performs very well in photos, although the level of artificial intelligence usage may be a concern. In terms of video, the Honor 400 lags behind its competitors, as it does not support 4K recording at 60 fps. The maximum is 4K/30 fps. This limitation is a clear minus, especially for those who value video recording.
Audio is handled by stereo speakers, but the sound is thin and treble-heavy. It's good enough for podcasts, audiobooks, and video calls, but not for enjoying music.
The 5300 mAh battery provides a day of active use and up to two days with moderate use. The charger is not included in the package, and the maximum charging speed is 66 watts, which charges the battery halfway in just over fifteen minutes. The operating system is Android 15, to which Honor has added its own MagicOS interface. It works mostly smoothly, but there are plenty of pre-installed applications. A plus is the six-year update promise. The device's IP65 protection guarantees dust tightness and is splash-proof, but submerging it in water is not recommended. The plastic construction requires the use of a protective case to ensure durability.
