Samsung Research will be showcasing its new HDR10+ technology for Ultra HD Blu-ray discs in Las Vegas next week. It will be presented in collaboration with three other companies: Deluxe, ATEME, and Scenarist.
HDR10+ is a dynamic metadata format that competes with Dolby Vision and was introduced last summer and was developed in collaboration with Samsung, Panasonic and 20th Century Fox. In January of this year, Warner Bros. also gave it the green light, so films from that company can be expected to be in HDR10+ format. So far, it is supported by some TVs from Samsung, Panasonic and Phillips.
Discs that support HDR10+ are also compatible with other HDR-capable 4K TVs. If the TV does not support HDR10+, the movie will be displayed in HDR10 format without dynamic metadata.
