Mercedes-Benz has brought the Apple Music streaming service’s Dolby Atmos surround sound to its MBUX infotainment and entertainment systems. It will be available as an optional extra in the manufacturer’s more expensive models, namely the Mercedes-Maybach models at first, and soon also in the S-Class range, as well as in electric vehicles such as the EQE, EQS and EQS SUV.
The sound is said to be concert hall-like. This is the first time Apple Music’s three-dimensional Atmos sound is available in cars and generally in any device other than Apple’s own. Dolby Atmos came to the Apple Music service last summer at the same time as lossless audio quality. Mercedes is also among the first to offer Atmos sound in a car.
The Mercedes-Maybach x Virgil Abloh model launched last month by Mercedes-Benz also launched a new Burmester 4D sound system at the same time. The 1,750-watt system consists of 31 speakers, six of which are located in the ceiling. Some of the speakers are placed in the seats. The 18.5-liter subwoofer is responsible for the bass. This system will also be seen in other Mercedes models.
