The XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro is a small and portable Full HD projector that combines Google TV, advanced automatic settings and exceptional image quality in its class. It is especially suitable for evening use and low-light environments, where its strengths are best demonstrated.

The popularity of compact and easy-to-use projectors is constantly growing. This is reflected in the fact that more and more new models and manufacturers are appearing on the market. Lightweight and small projectors are well suited for both work and home use, and they are easy to use when needed and even take with you to a holiday home, for example. And as technology develops, especially with regard to the LED light source, even a small device can produce more light output with less energy consumption and heat generation. Lower heat generation reduces the need for cooling and makes operation quieter. The service life of an LED light source can be up to more than 20,000 hours – practically almost forever.

Easy and fast

The MoGo 3 Pro successfully represents this product category: it is lap-sized, lightweight (approx. 1,1 kg), and ready to use almost anywhere without complicated adjustments. Startup occurs automatically when the device is flipped out on its stand. The MoGo 3 Pro's integrated stand allows for a 130-degree tilt. There is no built-in battery, but if necessary, the device works with a USB-C power bank (at least 65 W) or with the separately sold PowerBase battery stand, which provides power for up to 2,5 hours of viewing. The stand's capacity is stated to be 20.000 mAh.

Setup is straightforward, and the included Bluetooth remote works reliably, even though it doesn't have backlighting. The user interface is based on the Google TV ecosystem, which offers a wide range of apps. Logging in to a Google account allows you to use streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, Max, and of course Yle Arena and other Finnish services. The user interface is available in Finnish and works logically.

The connection range is limited but sufficient: micro-HDMI (with ARC support), USB-A, and USB-C for power delivery. Bluetooth 5.1 allows you to connect external speakers or headphones. There is no 3,5 mm headphone jack. Mirroring from mobile devices works via Google Cast or AirMirror – the latter requires a separate app on iOS devices.

The projector is based on Google TV. It has all possible streaming apps and Chomecast screen mirroring directly from your phone (Android).

  • Xgmi MoGo 3 input
There is an HDMI input for an external device, but in a rare micro size. It would be good to have an adapter included in the delivery. So now it's not included.

XGIMI is also sold with a handy storage bag, which includes a power bank stand and the XGIMI Creative Optical Filter, which you can use to create different mood scenarios for the entire room with the app. And in practice, the projector is sold with this accessory package for the same or almost the same price as the projector's recommended price.

Image quality and adjustment options

According to the manufacturer, the LED light source produces a brightness of 450 ISO lumens, in practice about 330 ANSI lumens at the brightest usable setting. The image is sharp and the color reproduction is good, especially in dim conditions with a 60-100 inch screen size. HDR10 support brings more contrast, but of course it does not reach the level of a cinema. DLP technology has been successfully implemented; the rainbow effect was minimal in the test. Autofocus works well, but a little fine-tuning may sometimes be needed. Automatic keystone correction also works well.

The picture is good even at the basic settings. The brightness doesn't reach maximum, but it's enough in a darkened room. The noise level of the cooling fan is also very low.

The image size can technically be up to 200 inches, but in practice the best result is achieved between 60 and 100 inches. The throw distance for a 100-inch 16:9 image is just over 3 m. The image size can be adjusted smaller using digital zoom.

The MoGo 3 Pro offers a wide range of adjustments, including color mode, color temperature, 11-point white balance adjustment, MPEG noise reduction, and special modes such as DLG (virtual 120 Hz gaming mode) and DI (black level enhancement), which allow the device to be adjusted even for more demanding use.

The projector also has very comprehensive image adjustments.

Automation makes it easier

The projector's automatic adjustment functions make casual use effortless. On the MoGo 3 Pro, autofocus and so-called keystone or keystone correction work quickly and in most situations without any additional user intervention. But what do these terms actually mean – and do they affect image quality?

Just like with binoculars or manual cameras, the image must be focused according to how far away the object is. With a projector, the image must be focused by adjusting the distance between the lenses according to the distance between the projector and the projection surface.

Autofocus (autofocus) automatically adjusts the image resolution. The image focuses automatically when the device is placed in place. Of course, there is still the possibility of fine-tuning here too.
