Spotify said On Monday, February 22, in a press conference he held, he announced his plans to launch a new HiFi subscription. Therefore, most likely, it will be a membership level above the current Spotify Premium.
Spotify is the most popular music streaming service in the world, but its music is heavily compressed, and for this reason the sound quality may not be the best possible. At least not when listened to on high-end devices.
Not everyone believes this, and the quality of Spotify's audio leaves mixed opinions. The majority of users of the service (albeit the free version) consider the quality to be good, while at least the hi-fi enthusiasts are certainly of a different opinion. On the other hand, many artists are also pushing for better quality and according to Spotify, streaming based on an uncompromised audio system is one of the most sought-after features of the service.
Listeners who want high-quality music are currently mostly listening to their music on the Tidal service.
Now, high-quality music is also available to Spotify users in lossless packaging and data transmission. Spotify has not provided more detailed information about the service and, in its press release, only refers to a ”cd-level” lossless audio format.
The Spotify Hifi subscription should also work via devices that utilize the Spotify Connect connection.
There is no information about the price, but Spotify Hifi will probably cost more than the current Spotify Premium (10.99 €/month). Spotify Premium uses lossy savings encoding at a maximum bitrate of 320 kilobits.
Spotify HiFi will only be available for sale later this year and initially in certain regions. There is no more specific information about availability in Finland, for example.
