The Chinese phone manufacturer OnePlus, which is popular among Finns, has unveiled its new OnePlus 6 model today in London. The phone will be available worldwide on May 22. The color options are Mirror Black, Midnight Black, and Silk White, which will be available on June 5 as a limited edition.
As a surprise, the wireless headphones were also announced at the same time – but not completely wireless ones. Nevertheless, the old-fashioned headphone connector is still available on the fourth model. The most striking change in the phone itself is the larger 6.28-inch AMOLED display compared to its predecessor, which is equipped with a notch. The display has a 19:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1,080 x 2,280 pixels.

The manufacturer says it primarily focused on the phone’s speed, and the motto of the press conference was ”The Speed You Need”. This has been emphasized not only in the processor but also in other areas. The maximum speed of the 4G LTE network is promised to be one gigabyte per second. In addition, according to the manufacturer, the OnePlus 6 has a faster startup of applications and a faster cache for the most frequently used applications. The user interface is provided by the OxygenOS, which offers almost pure Android, which usually also provides additional speed. The Android P that will be released in the fall is said to arrive quickly to the phone.
The OnePlus 6’s body is made of aluminum and the back panel is made of Gorilla Glass 5 armor. There is also a fingerprint sensor located on the back. The battery capacity is 3,300 mAh. It is promised that charging for daily use will take place in half an hour. However, there is no wireless charging. Facial recognition is also promised to work in 0.4 seconds. The phone has a revamped gaming mode that doesn’t just reduce notifications but also limits background processes during gameplay.

There are three versions available for the phone. The cheapest one is equipped with six gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of storage. The middle model has eight gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of storage. The most powerful version has eight gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of storage. The system chip is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, familiar from many of this year’s top Android phones, which the manufacturer claims offers 30 percent more performance and 10 percent less power consumption.

There are two rear cameras. The main camera has a 16-megapixel sensor, and the second camera has a 20-megapixel sensor. The aperture of the rear cameras is f/1.7. The main camera also has an optical image stabilizer. Emphasis has been placed on low-light photography. The sensor has been enlarged to 19 %, to ensure that the images are more detailed and less blurred. The front camera, on the other hand, has a 16-megapixel sensor and a f/2.0 aperture.
Unlike many other flagship phones, the press conference did not discuss actual artificial intelligence features. The portrait mode is said to be faster and new effects are available. Additionally, the portrait mode is also available in the selfie camera.
The video side has a slow-motion function that can record at 480 fps at 720p resolution. With full HD resolution, the speed drops to 240 fps. However, a special feature is that after recording a minute, you can choose when to slow down the recording. 4k video recording is possible at 60 fps. The video editor has also been updated. It has more control options. In the editor, you can adjust the frame rate, use filters, and add background music.
While the previous model was only available from Elis, the OnePlus 6 will also be available through Telia. The actual sales start on May 22, except for the Silk White model, which will start on June 5.
The pop-up advance sale will be held on May 21 at 5 p.m., starting at individual Elisa stores in Helsinki, Turku, Tampere and Oulu.

OnePlus also released the Bullets Wireless wireless headphones, which are equipped with an auxiliary cable. They have magnets in them. A handy feature is that the headphones turn on when they are separated from each other, and stop playing when they are clicked together. The headphones also turn off automatically when they have not been used for five minutes. Charging takes place via the USB-C connector. According to the manufacturer, quick charging allows for charging 10 minutes of power for 5 hours. The total battery life is promised to be eight hours.
The sound is provided by a 9.2-inch element. Bluetooth connectivity is enhanced with Qualcomm’s aptX technology to improve sound quality. The ”Energy tube” technology is said to prevent sound distortion. The headphones are said to be weatherproof. Their price is 69 euros and they will be available on June 5th.
The phone is still more affordable than many other flagship models. The prices are as follows:
6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage: 519 euros, available in the Mirror Black color option.
