Thales, a Swiss company that has honed its audio arm expertise for ten years, has unveiled the tangential reference level Statement audio arm.
Its bent shaft and pulley are made of an aluminum alloy that is 10 times stronger than steel but has a higher steel-to-aluminum ratio. The damping has also been increased, for example with a ruthenium coating on the bearings. The bearing unit is also encapsulated to increase mechanical stiffness.
The VTA angle can be fine-tuned with an accuracy of one-tenth of a millimeter and the azimuth with an accuracy of one-third of a degree. The weight is 24 grams and the length is 229 mm. The arm supports a needle weight of 7–20 grams. The arm is available with a rhodium or gold coating.
