The Auris Audio brand EarMen covers high-end products designed for portable devices, of which the battery-powered TR-Amp is EarMen’s latest addition to the lineup of portable DACs, headphone/preamp units.
The TR-Amp meets the need when it was noticed that most mobile devices and portable music players are not capable of properly controlling all the headphones. The heart of the TR-Amp is a high-power amplifier built around the Texas Inststruments TPA6120 IC, which is wired to the AB power supply. The amplifier has a high bandwidth and is extremely low-noise and dynamic, with a 128 dB. In addition, the amplifier is said to suppress noise components and the amount of amplification does not affect the frequency response. The power output of the amplifier is 400mW at 16 ohms and is suitable for a wide range of headphones according to the manufacturer. The volume control is designed as an analog control for both the headphones and the preamp outputs. There are two headphone outputs on the device, both of which can be used simultaneously.

The amplifier is built into a sturdy 129x66x30 mm machined aluminum enclosure, featuring two headphone connectors (6.35 mm and 3.5 mm) on the front panel, as well as a volume control that also functions as a power switch.

The rear panel features USB-C connectors for signal input and device charging, as well as an RCA output implemented with a pre-amplifier section that can also be used directly without amplification. The weight of the device is 240 g.
EarMen TR Amp Decoding is PCM up to 32 bit/384 kHz, Native DSD128, DSD256 via DoP, and MQA decoding.
The TR-Amp is designed, manufactured, and assembled in Europe. The SMT production line is Swiss-made, and all components are sourced from European distribution. The high quality of the device is further evidenced by a 5-year extended warranty, which is available upon request.
The price for the device is 249 euros, $ or about 230 euros.
