Marantz has unveiled the new 11.2-channel AV7704 preamp, which is the most powerful model in the manufacturer's lineup. The previous AV7703 now also supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, as well as Auro 3D decoding.
Each of the eight HDMI inputs supports 4K pass-through. Dolby Vision HDR support and Hybrid Log Gamma will be coming later with the update. There are five stereo line inputs plus a phono input. Line level inputs also include 7.1 inputs. Additionally, the device has two coaxial and digital inputs. Later on, eARC support will also be added to the device. File support on the DSD side extends to 2.8 and 5.6 MHz. On the PCM side, FLAC, ALAC, and WAV at 24 bit and 192 kHz are supported.
The preamp has three HDMI outputs, two of which can be connected to the same zone and the third to another zone. Pre-out audio outputs are available for each channel and can be used to power active speakers or main amplifiers.
The amplifier supports the HEOS multi-room system, which includes streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer, and Tidal, as well as TuneIn internet radio. Wireless playback is also possible via Bluetooth and AirPlay.
The device is said to arrive in stores in the fall. It will replace the AV7703 model.
