LG adds DTS Virtual:X surround sound to its new 4K TVs
DTS has announced that LG will introduce DTS Virtual:X surround sound to its new 4K TVs. This feature, unveiled last summer, has so far been available on some soundbars and amplifiers, but LG is also opening the game up to televisions.
Virtual:X is a lighter competitor to Dolby Atmos. While Atmos requires concrete ceiling speakers, Virtual:X aims for a similar effect with conventional speakers. Virtual:X creates a spacious effect through a stereo audio track or a maximum of 7.1.4 channel track. Separately, you can choose a virtual height and surround effect, bass enhancement, and multi-band limiter.
The first Virtual:X TVs are already available in Korea. Their arrival to other parts of the world will be announced later.
