Huawei has started cooperation with Dutch company TomTom in mapping services. The reason is that Huawei has been placed on a U.S. sanctions list, which has prevented the manufacturer from using Google services in its latest phones. One of the services that has been blocked is the Google Maps mapping service.
The collaboration has already begun earlier, but now the information is public. TomTom maps will be part of Huawei Mobile Services, which is intended to replace Google’s similar services. Application developers can use the Map Kit interface to replace the map services in their applications with TomTom maps.
TomTom maps are used by Uber and Apple, with over a billion users using them. About it told Reuters.
