American high-end manufacturer McIntosh has unveiled the XCS1.5K center speaker. It can be used, for example, as a companion to the manufacturer's own XRT2.1K or XRT1.1K floor speakers to complement the dialogue playback.
It’s not just any center speaker; the XCS1.5K has 43 drivers and a power output of 1,500 watts. It’s a hybrid of a three-way and four-way speaker. The bass is provided by four 8-inch carbon fiber drivers that are long-throw and reflex-cased. There are 14 2.5-inch aluminum mid-range drivers, and 25 0.75-inch dome tweeters.
The speaker can be rotated to five different angles. The layout of the elements and the design of the dividing bar are said to provide a wider sound field.
The speaker is equipped with a removable fabric grill. The enclosure is finished with seven black piano lacquer layers. Three speaker terminals are available, which allow the use of two or three amplifiers, as well as double or triple wiring.
The XCS1.5K will be available on the market starting in October. As for Finland, the schedule and price are not yet known.
