We reported on Focal’s plans to unveil new devices at the Munich High End Show in May to celebrate its 40th anniversary. However, the birthday celebrant couldn’t help but introduce its active F40th car audio series in advance.
It includes two 6-inch bass/midrange units equipped with the Flax woofer cone, with a continuous power output of 80 watts. One 10-inch subwoofer unit with dual speakers and the Flax woofer cone. Its continuous power output is stated as 600 watts. The tweeters are provided by two units equipped with a reversible beryllium dome. The combination of Flax and beryllium is now available for the first time in cars.
The power is provided by the moderately sized five-channel FPX 5.1200 amplifier, which provides 2 x 75 watts for the treble speakers, 2 x 120 watts for the bass/midrange speakers and 1 x 720 watts for the subwoofer. Additionally, there is a DSP FSP-8 signal processor that is optimized for over eight channels. It has an optical input and is promised to deliver sound quality of 24 bits and 192 kilohertz. The set comes with a remote control.
The series will be released in April 2019.
