Defunc Home speakers are stylish and attractively sounding wireless multi-room speakers. Nordic design combines effortless setup and versatile features at a reasonable price.
Wireless multi-room speakers have been commonplace since the 2010s, although in the early years their use and features were still quite limited.
The Swedish Defunc Home is a fairly new brand on the Finnish market, and we wanted to "test" out of curiosity what the Home series speakers are capable of.
The Defunc Home collection is quite clear: two models, Small and Large. Very clear. And right from the start, it must be said that the designer of the speakers has a sense of style. Undeniably, the images are connected to products from Bang & Olufsen, for example, which in itself is only a positive thing. The impression of quality is also high, right down to the packaging.

The speaker color options are black or white. The front fabrics are standard light gray or black. Eight different colors of front fabrics are available as an accessory (40-50 euros). A wall mount (40-50 euros) and adjustable floor stands (130 euros) are also available.

Easy
Setting up the speakers is easy, but to get sound into your room, you first need to download the Defunc app (Android and iOS) to your phone. The included instructions are clear and in Finnish, which is a big plus.
Downloading and installing the application was easy and quick. After that, connecting the speakers to the home network was quick. Readers should note that this ease and convenience is not something to take for granted. The language of the application is delightfully clear Finnish, so the good vibes continue there too.
The Defunc app supports a variety of music services, including Spotify, Tidal, and Deezer, as well as TuneIn internet radio. Both speaker models also have Bluetooth and an analog AUX connection. The app allows you to control multiple speakers connected to the same network at the same time or individually. You can adjust the volume of Home speakers in different rooms individually and play the same or different music on them. The speakers can be grouped as desired, and two speakers can also be connected as a true stereo pair.

But… that voice?
We started with the smaller Small model. Even as the opening rhythms played, our mouths and ears got used to the brass. The sound seemed to be well balanced: the sound is warm and at the same time fresh and distinctive. Overall, it's a hi-fi sound that even inspires you to listen more.
Considering the size of the cabinet, the Small also reproduces bass surprisingly low. Of course, the laws of physics were not violated this time either - meaning that the sound pressure limits will be met very soon. If you try to squeeze even a little more decibels out of the speaker, you will hear compression of the bass range and even clear distortion. But at normal volumes, the sound stays together well and is surprisingly plush, and that is enough for listening in a smaller space and close-up.

More in the bigger one
The larger Home Large has a larger cabinet, bigger bass and more power, so the default is more sound and dimension. And that's exactly what it is: the Large's sound range and bass dimension are noticeably better. The Large works better than its little brother even in a larger space and offers a rare delicious sound in its price range.
The sound has not been overly commercialized with an emphasis on bass, but the overall sound is very respectful of hi-fi values, but suitably plush.
The app also has bass and treble controls, as well as presets for speaker placement. These mainly affect bass reproduction, and you should choose the option that sounds best to your ears.
Good-sounding and stylish
Defunc Home speakers combine stylish design and high-quality sound with a user-friendly experience. The quality impression is high-level. Setting up the speakers is easy thanks to the clear Finnish-language application and user manual. The Small model offers surprisingly good sound quality in a small size, while the Large model produces a stronger and more expansive soundscape, suitable for larger spaces and in a way more “demanding” listening. Both models support multi-room use, stereo pairing and all the most common music services. Colored front fabrics, wall mounting option and adjustable floor feet are also a good addition.
Full-bodied, yet even hi-fi-like playback (especially Large)
Finnish-language application and easy to use
Also Bluetooth and AUX connection
Timeless, elegant Scandinavian design
Interchangeable front nets and floor/wall mounts
Small model has more limited sound pressure levels
