Founded in 1985 in Germany, Audio Physic is undoubtedly one of the most respected manufacturers of high-end loudspeakers. The company was founded by the pioneer of the hi-fi industry, Joachim Gerhard, who wanted to create loudspeakers that combined extreme precision, naturalness and musicality. From the very beginning, Audio Physic’s philosophy has been clear: the loudspeaker should not be the center of attention, but the music should be.
In Brilon, Germany, handmade loudspeakers are known for their innovative technical solutions, such as the Sandwich Cabinet Construction, which reduces the resonance of the speaker structure, and the Dual Basket Design, which minimizes vibrations and improves the controlled movement of the elements. The company's motto "No loss of fine detail" aptly describes its uncompromising approach: the goal is to reproduce every detail as cleanly and flawlessly as possible.
Audio Physic speakers have won wide international recognition over the years. The range is extensive, covering both “compact hi-fi speakers” and more or less affordable and massive high-end floor speakers. Depending on how you define them as compact hi-fi speakers or high-end speakers?
The Audio Physic Tempo that is now being tested represents the cheaper floor-standing speakers in the Reference series in the middle of the lineup. However, its price is still quite high for many people, or at least what is considered premium.
The Tempos are therefore the most affordable floor speakers in the Audio Physics Reference range. They cost 7290 euros each. Premium and high-end speakers priced at this level are available.
These are floorstanding 3-way speakers that are a meter high. Put simply, it sounds pretty simple, so let’s take a closer look at the structure of the speakers.
The Audio Physic Tempo speakers utilize several technologies developed by the company, which are said to improve both sound quality and structural performance. One of the key innovations is the Push-Push technology, in which two bass units equipped with rigid aluminum foil are positioned on opposite sides of the speaker. This arrangement allows for a symmetrical power distribution, reducing cabinet vibration and improving impulse response, according to the manufacturer.
The same goal is achieved through the internal damping of the speaker, which is based on a ceramic porous foam material. This extremely rigid but lightweight and effectively damping material is said to support the enclosure, damping resonances and ultimately producing a purer reproduction.
The speaker's housing structure is designed to minimize standing waves and vibrations. The enclosure is slim, and its curved sides taper forward. [The enclosure is also tilted back significantly.]
