German high-end manufacturer Clearaudio says that its Reference Jubilee turntable is now available. The player is said to offer the best of Clearaudio’s expertise from the past, present and future. The Reference name refers to the company’s first turntable, which was, like the boomerang, a novelty. However, the body is now made of wood and aluminum.
The friction and resonance are expected to be minimal, and torque should be available in abundance instead. This has been achieved, among other things, with a 60 mm thick disc with a material of polyoxymethylene. The auxiliary bearing is made of stainless steel and weighs as much as 8.5 kilograms. The disc features a frictionless ceramic CMB magnetic bearing.
The playback accuracy is ensured by the manufacturer’s proprietary optical speed adjustment system with an optical sensor and a speed adjustment unit, as well as a 12-bit DA converter. The accuracy of the speed is stated to be less than ± 0.05 percent. The motor is a new 24-volt DC motor that rotates the disc via a belt. The motor is suspended separately from the chassis. It is promised to be incredibly quiet. The total weight of the record player is 22 kilograms, which, in its own way, helps to reduce vibrations.
Availability and price in Finland are not yet known.
