OnePlus has unveiled its new 7-series phones. The manufacturer, known for its more affordable flagship phones, has found its way into the pockets of many Swedes in recent years. Now it is expanding its range with the 7 Pro model, which approaches the price range of more expensive flagship phones while being more robust. The OnePlus 7 Pro also comes with 5G connectivity.
The OnePlus 7 Pro has a slightly larger and more detailed 6.67-inch display than the basic model, and it is the first time the manufacturer has used curved edges on its phones. Its display is made using the new Fluid AMOLED technology. The display has a resolution of 3,120 x 1,440 pixels and a pixel density of 516 pixels per inch. In terms of aspect ratio, the display is 19.5:9. Its refresh rate is 90 Hz instead of the more common 60 Hz.
The basic model has a 6.41-inch display and a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. The technology is also different – Optic AMOLED. The display also has a fingerprint reader, which is said to be faster than last year’s 6T. The phone now has dual speakers, and Dolby has been involved in developing the sound quality.
The OnePlus 7 phones, like many Android flagships this year, use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 system chip. The OnePlus 7 Pro has liquid cooling, which should make gaming more comfortable in warmer conditions.
The Ram storage in the Pro versions is 8 or 12 gigabytes, depending on the model, while the basic model has 8 or 6 gigabytes. The Pro model’s special feature is RAM Boost, which optimizes the memory according to the needs of the applications and the user’s habits. The storage memory in the OnePlus 7 Pro is 256 gigabytes. In the basic model, there is either 256 or 128 gigabytes of memory. It is implemented with a previously faster UFS 3.0 memory. The storage capacity cannot be expanded with a memory card.
There is fierce competition in the mid- and flagship-class smartphone markets. OnePlus has also invested in its camera department, as the main camera features the same 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor that is familiar from many of this year's best-selling phones. The aperture for the main camera is f/1.6 and it is equipped with phase-detection autofocus as well as optical and electronic image stabilization.
The second camera has an eight-megapixel resolution and offers triple optical zoom. The tele camera also has optical image stabilization and an aperture of f/2.4. The third camera is an ultra wide-angle camera with a 16-megapixel sensor and an aperture of f/2.2. The UltraShot function offers HDR+ and Super Resolution shooting modes, and the phone also has a night mode.
The basic model has a dual camera, with the main camera featuring the same 48-megapixel sensor, but the aperture is more modest at f/1.7. An optical image stabilizer is also included in the second camera. The second camera has a five-megapixel sensor and an aperture of f/2.4.
A more specialized, though not unique, solution is the front camera on the OnePlus 7 Pro, which pops out from the device when necessary. It has a 16-megapixel Sony IMX 471 sensor. The aperture is f/2.0 and instead of an optical stabilizer, there is an electronic one. Durability has been emphasized, as the front camera is protected by sapphire glass and the mechanism should withstand 300,000 lifts. The basic model, on the other hand, has a 16-megapixel display embedded in the lens.
The battery in the OnePlus 7 Pro model has a capacity of 4,000 mAh, while the OnePlus 7 has 3,700 mAh. Charging takes place at a 30-watt rate with the Warp Charge 30 fast charging technology. With this power, the battery should be fully charged in just 20 minutes. The basic model’s fast charging is more modest at 20 watts with Fast Charge.
The OnePlus 7 comes with Android 9.0 Pie and the OxygenOS user interface. It features a more smooth gaming mode and Zen Mode, which helps users focus by locking the phone for 20 minutes. The phone also features a revamped haptic vibration engine.
The phone has an aluminum frame, while the front and back are made of glass. The color options are Mirror Grey, Almond, and matte-blue Nebula Blue. The 8+256 GB versions of the Pro version cost 749 euros in Finland, while the 12+256 GB model costs 829 euros. The top model is available only in Nebula Blue. The more modest Pro model is available in all colors, as the Almond color option will also be added in June.
The basic model is available in Mirror Grey only. The most affordable 6 + 128 GB version costs 549 euros, and the 8 + 256 GB version 599 euros. Sales start on May 21st.
The 5G version of the OnePlus Pro does not differ externally from the regular Pro model except for the 5G logo, although the internal antenna solution takes up more space and requires more efficient cooling. It is promised to be available in Finland through Elisa during the second quarter, which is very soon.
