British company Quad has introduced a new device to its Artera series. The Artera Solus is a multi-functional device that includes a CD player, a digital-to-analog converter, a preamp, and a power amplifier. It can be used to replace some of the devices in the Artera series, including the Stereo power amplifier, the Play CD player, the Link streaming player, and the integrated One amplifier.
The input connections are an analog RCA pair, one coaxial, two optical, USB-B and USB-A. Additionally, there is a Bluetooth connection equipped with aptx. As for the outputs, there are RCA and XLR pairs, and there is a dedicated amplifier circuit for headphones. A version equipped with Wi-Fi will be coming out this fall.
Power is promised from the ab-class amplifier with 2 x 75 watts at an eight-ohm load, and 15 amps of current. Both channels have their own 300 VA toroidal transformers. The DA converter circuit is the ESS Technology ES9018 Sabre32 Reference, which can handle 32-bit and 384 kHz PCM audio and dsd256 and has eight channels. Four digital filters allow you to customize the sound to your liking.
The device is said to arrive in stores this month. The price range is given by the British at £1,500. The color options are black and silver.
