The Nothing Ear (open) headphones have been reintroduced in the Wear Nothing campaign, which uses dancers, runners and other athletes to illustrate the lightness and open listening experience. Theo Sion's minimalist shots focus on the body and movement, while the headphones are left almost unnoticeable.
This is not a completely new headphone model, as the Ear (open) was originally released in the fall of 2024. As a 2026 update, a blue color version has been added to the range, which is also highlighted in the new campaign. The open structure allows the environment to be heard.

Ear (open) is based on Nothing's Open Sound Technology solution. When using the headphones, the ear canal is not closed, but sounds from traffic, the gym and other surroundings can be heard alongside the music.
The solution can be particularly useful when exercising outdoors and commuting, but at the same time, the limitations of the open design should be taken into account. In strong background noise, the separation of the content being listened to may be impaired compared to closed headphones.
The headphones are designed to stay in place with a flexible silicone earhook that fits around the ear. The material has been chosen to be sweat-resistant and reduce slipping during exercise. Each earbud weighs 8,1 grams and measures 41,4 × 51,3 × 14,4 millimeters.

The charging case has an exceptionally wide and shallow design, measuring 44 × 125,9 × 19 millimeters and weighing 63,8 grams.

A large dynamic element is responsible for the sound
The sound is produced by a 14,2 mm dynamic driver. The driver's diaphragm is made of titanium-coated PET plastic, or polyethylene terephthalate. The aim of the design is to produce sufficient sound pressure despite the open design.
The wireless connection is established using Bluetooth 5.3 technology. AAC and SBC codecs are supported, but no lossless or high-resolution Bluetooth codec is included.
The headphones can be used with devices running Android 5.0 and iOS 13 or higher. Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair help speed up setup on compatible phones and computers. Dual Connection allows you to stay connected to two devices at the same time.
For calls, AI Clear Voice Technology is used, which aims to reduce ambient noise from the sound recorded by the microphones. The headphones are controlled by squeezing the arms, which reduces the possibility of accidental touches when moving.
Battery life is promised to be up to 30 hours
The listening time on a single charge is stated to be up to eight hours. With the charging case, the total duration increases to 30 hours. The talk time is six hours with the headphones and a total of 24 hours with the charging case.
Each earbud uses a 64 mAh battery, while the case has a capacity of 635 mAh. A ten-minute quick charge can provide up to ten hours of listening time, according to the manufacturer's measurements. Charging is handled via a USB-C connection.
Both the headphones and charging case are IP54 rated against dust and splashes. However, they are not intended to be submerged in water, and a wet device should not be placed in the charging case.
The Nothing X app controls sound and control
The Nothing X app, available for Android and iOS, lets you use a versatile equalizer, share preset sound profiles, and change the headphones' controls. It also lets you find lost headphones, manage the connection between two devices, and install firmware updates.

Low latency mode is specifically designed for gaming and video content. With a compatible Nothing phone, latency can be reduced to as low as 120 milliseconds, according to the manufacturer.
The package includes two earphones, a charging case, a USB-C cable, a user manual, and safety and warranty information.

Available in white and blue
Ear (open) is available in white and a new blue version. At the time of writing, the price of both colors in Nothing's Finnish online store is 109 euros. The crossed-out comparison price shown on the product page is 159 euros. The carbon footprint of the product's life cycle is reported to be three kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent. Renewable energy is used in the final assembly, and the tin in the solder paste is entirely recycled.
