The recently released MC451 hybrid amplifier from American high-end manufacturer McIntosh was awarded the Innovation Awards Honoree at the CES 2023 Consumer Electronics Show. The company received recognition for its advancements in amplifier technology.
The MC451 is a dual mono power amplifier that combines Hybrid Drive amplifier technology with a tube and semi-conductor amplifier. The tube amplifier section for the mid-range and tweeter elements provides 150 watts of power, and the semi-conductor section for the bass reproduction is 300 watts. The output frequency can be adjusted between the two amplifiers. McIntosh’s idea is that by adjusting the proportions of the tube and semi-conductor technology, the reproduction can be adjusted better to suit the genre. Whereas in rock music a larger proportion of the transistor amplifier can be used, in jazz music a better performance can be achieved with tubes.
Previously, similar technology was available in the more powerful MC901 amplifier, where both amplifiers provide twice the power. Other features familiar from McIntosh include Power Guard, which controls the crossover between the speakers, Sentry Monitor, which protects against surges, and Autoformer, which feeds full power to loudspeakers with multiple impedance settings.
The price and availability in Finland are not yet known.
