Testing: Battery-powered hand-held pressure washers – more or less pressure

Convenient and affordable battery-powered, handheld pressure washers have come onto the market that suck water directly from a bucket or even a lake. We bought one of these to try out from the Hobby Hall online store last summer (including a video). The washer, which cost around 39 euros, has done its job quite nicely in washing bicycles, rinsing racing boots and also helpfully in “dusting” the car, and the operating time with two batteries is also quite okay, even though the 36 V and 5 Ah batteries are actually 21 V and 1200 mAh (?!). However, there could be a little more power.

How could it be that it caught my eye - a washer that looks a little more robust than Temus, with a handy swivel shower head with 6 different nozzles, and twice as large “Makita-compatible” batteries (two batteries). The pressure is also promised to be significantly higher (28 vs. 70 bar). If the figures are to be trusted anyway. The price is reasonable, however, around 55 euros (including shipping costs).

More power

The new washer is slightly larger than the Hobby Hall version and also of higher quality, right down to the storage bag. The batteries are twice as large and have about the same values (21 V / 2600 mAh). And right from the first test, the power also seemed to be clearly higher.

Both seem to have the same motor. The 3-chamber pump, which is an extension of it, sucks in water and generates pressure. The Temu washer pump has a slightly larger working piston and therefore a higher output. The Temu battery also has a larger capacity and a slightly higher power can be extracted from the motor. The Hobby Hall washer battery reads 36 V and 5 Ah. In fact, the battery is 21 V and 1200 mAh. You can't always trust the information on these Chinese devices.

We were unable to measure the pressure of the washers, but the “washing power” is not just about pressure, but also about the combined effect of pressure, flow rate and the speed of the water jet coming out of the nozzle. Together, these determine the momentum of the water and the practical cleaning ability. The shape of the jet can also be added, because the width and structure of the fan affect how tightly and with what force the water hits the surface. In a “tighter” jet, the speed of the water increases and the removal efficiency improves.
