For tube amplifier enthusiasts who value the highest quality and aesthetics, a truly stunning headphone amplifier is now available.
The McIntosh MHA200 is a high-end headphone amplifier faithful to the manufacturer's distinctive and traditional style. It is a true tube amplifier from start to finish: 12AT7 dual-triode vacuum tubes in the preamp and 12BH7A in the power stage. The MHA200 also features the Unity Coupled Circuit output transformers developed by McIntosh back in 1949.
The converters help match the output level to different loads, and the maximum power is available regardless of the load without adjusting the output level voltage. The amplifier is able to control headphones linearly regardless of the load. The matching is done by selecting the desired impedance from four options: 32-100, 100-250, 250-600, and 600-1000 ohms at a power level of 500 mW.
There are only two inputs: traditional unbalanced RCA cables and balanced XLR cables. As for the outputs, there are separate balanced XLR cables for the right and left channels on the front panel, one stereo XLR cable, and a normal 6.3 mm input. There is also a volume control on the front with a metal knob on the right, of course. The components that contribute to top-notch audio performance seem to be in place.
Quality of course costs money: In this case 2995 €.
