Tascam has released a new CD-A580 v2 player. This is a reissued version of the CD-A580, which was introduced in 2017. It combines a cassette player, a CD player, and a USB player. It has treble horns, so it is suitable for use as part of a DJ set, but it can also be used at home to transfer a cassette or CD collection to a memory stick, for example.
Audio can be transferred to MP3 format from a cassette, as well as from CDs and line-level inputs. When transferring from a CD, the tracks are automatically saved as separate MP3 files, while splitting them into tracks from other sources is done manually.
Like the original CD-A580, the newly released model also uses the MP3 file format in USB storage and a 44.1 kHz sampling rate with 128 kbps quality. The features of the Mixtape collection or cassette tape tracks cannot be directly digitised in the device in the best possible way, as there is no such thing as a wav file format or 320 kbps quality included, for example. Higher-quality transfer is also possible by connecting the device to the computer's audio card via the line outputs.
All in all, it is one of the last new cassette players on the market, and quite a capable one at that. It supports playback of I-, II-, and IV-type cassettes as well as recording of L- and II-type cassettes. It has an audio volume control (+/- 10 %). The cassette player is designed for long-term professional use.
The CD player, on the other hand, supports not only regular CDs but also CD-R and CD-RW discs and data discs containing MP3 files. The USB port, on the other hand, supports USB 2.0 specifications and a maximum speed of 12 Mbps. An infrared remote control is included.
